It reacts with ammonia to form coordination compound bromopentaamminecobalt(III) bromide. It reacts with triphenylphosphine and form complexes of cobalt(II) bromide, which used as a catalyst in organic synthesis.

m.p. 100?° -4H{2}O, 130?° -6H{2}OHygroscopic. Air sensitive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and alkali metals.
