It is used in the preparation vinyl and methyl indates which undergo regioselective reactions with cinnamyl bromide. It is used as an "iodide getter" in the Cativa Process.

Light sensitive and hygroscopic. Store under inert dry gas. Keep away from oxidizing agents and strong bases.
