| General description【一般描述】 | Visfatin is also called pre-B cell colony enhancing factor, nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor 1 homolog, NAmPRTase, Nampt and PBEF. Visfatin is an adipocytokine produced by visceral fat. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | Visfatin has a role in mammalian nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) biosynthesis. Studies have shown that mice deficient in visfatin in the forebrain excitatory neurons show hyperactivity, diminished anxiety-like behaviors and impaired learning and memory. It has also been shown that visfatin stimulates glucose uptake and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation in mouse C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. |
