Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2, subunit 2 β, 38 kDa (EIF2β) is a component, others are α and gamma subunits, of eucaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (EIF-2). EIF-2 supports early stage protein synthesis as a part of the ternary complex with GTP and initiator tRNA. EIF2 subunit β catalyzes GDP:GTP exchange to recharge the EIF-2 complex with GTP.
