| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | Insulin gene enhancer binding protein-1 (ISL-1) is a transcription factor which plays a vital role in the development of the heart, motor neurons and pancreas. It also stimulates adult pancreatic ß-cells proliferation. ISL1 might also be involved in the regulation of insulin expression. Elevated expression of the gene has been observed in patients with gastric cancer. Thus, the protein can be used as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for gastric cancer. Mutation in the gene is associated with the increased risk of susceptibility to human congenital heart disease (CHD). |
