| General description【一般描述】 | Mucin 1 (MUC1) is a O-glycosylated, membrane bound, transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the mucin (MUC) gene family. It is expressed on the apical surface of mucosal epithelia in the lung, eye, breast and stomach. It consists of an N-terminal extracellular domain consisting of variable number tandem repeats (MUC1-TR) of 20 amino acids (aa) and a C-terminal domain which includes a 53aa extracellular region, a transmembrane domain (TM) and a 72aa cytoplasmic tail (MUC1CT). |

Mutation in the gene may result in progressive chronic kidney failure with a bland urinary sediment. |
