| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | For the hydrolysis of cholesterol esters in the determination of total cholesterol in serum or plasma; Application in (selective) hydrolysis/condensation of carboxylic ester bonds Cholesterol esterase exhibits broad substrate specificity and regulates the bile salt-mediated hydrolysis of dietary cholesteryl esters. It participates in the hydrolysis of triglycerides and phospholipids which are essential for normal cholesterol absorption. Cholesterol esterase plays a key role in transporting free cholesterol to enterocytes. Loss of enzyme function reduces the intestinal absorption of dietary cholesteryl esters. |
