| General description【一般描述】 | PAR-4 is a pro-apoptotic protein capable of selectively inducing apoptosis in cancer cells and sensitizing the cells to diverse apoptotic stimuli causing tumor regression. PAR-4 also seems to be a transcriptional repressor and is involved in regulating APP expression and the cleavage activity of BACE1. PAR-4 interacts with several proteins including WT1, but also various kinases, and structural proteins like Actin, BACE1, SPSB1, SPSB2, and SPSB4. PAR4 is localized in the cytoplasm in non-apoptotic cells but is nuclear localized in cancer and apoptotic cells. PAR-4 is widely expressed and elevated in neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, Alzheimer, Parkinson and Huntington diseases as well as stroke. PAR-4 is down regulated in cancers. |
